About

I am a philosopher by training although I do enjoy occasionally venturing outdoors to run.

I did a PPE and MA at Stellenbosch University in South Africa. My MA was an exploration of whether something like 'Artificial Moral Agency' is possible. Back then I thought it might be, today I think its not.

After that, in 2020, I moved to Germany to do my PhD at Bielefeld University. Here I explored whether AI undermines or complicates certain moral concepts. tldr; it doesn't undermine them but it certainly complicates them.

Since August 2023 I've been a postdoc at the University of Edinburgh working with Shannon Vallor.

My interests are fairly broad, and I mostly just like doing philosophy and thinking about things. I believe that philosophy and philosophical thinking can genuinely make a difference. And by make a difference I mean improve things somewhat. I therefore try to make my work not only philosophically rigorous but also practically attuned to pressing social and moral questions. That's why I like to think and write about topics related to moral responsibility, virtue ethics, and free will.
